The soft buds speckled the land—a sign of impending beauty ready to bloom…and a sign of doom.

“We’ll be asleep in seconds, Trove. Once the flowers bloom, we’ll be doomed.” Margot put her hands through her hair. “The sleeping scents will cast slumber upon the lands. It doesn’t make it any better that the flowers are planted on a hill.”

Trove surveyed the budding flowers. He shook his head in unacceptence.

“Can’t we just try and kill them?” He asked.

Margot laughed nervously. “These flowers can sustain severe conditions. If you pull one from the root, it will still live for a week. One way or another, these flowers will bloom.”

Trove exhaled a nervous sigh. “How did the enemy obtain such unique flowers?”

Margot shook her head. “There are parts of this world we don’t even know exist.”

At two o’clock that evening, the flowers bloomed, casting the whole village into a slumber.
