POEM STARTER

Write a romantic poem that could be sung as a song.

Think of the rhyme schemes and structures common in songs.

Country Lovin’

While I strum this here guitar, I’ve been dreamin’ of your face and the last time I saw your funny smile.

You were perfect, you were mine, now I regret the time and space we’ve spent apart - it’s been a long while.

Don’t know why I never took the hint — I just didn’t have a clue,

But you gave me every chance to man-up and stake my claim.

Deep down I couldn’t believe I deserved someone like you,

We sure had fun but now we’re done – only got myself to blame.

Steamy nights, full of stars —

Slow dances and real fast cars.

River raftin’ and rodeos,

Honky Tonk on the radio.

Family, country and God above

Time together with lots of love.

Country lovin’ ain’t always sweet

Sometimes we just feel the heat!

Dirt on our boots, sweat on my hat —

They ain’t got an app for that!

I know you can’t have rainbows without some rain

And you can’t know country lovin’ without some pain

Guess with everything you've lost there’s somethin’ else that you gained...

If you don't have someone to make you crazy - you’re sure to go insane!

Steamin’ nights, full of stars —

Real slow dancin’ and real fast cars.

River raftin’ and rodeos,

Honky Tonk on the radio.

Family, country and God above

Time together to make some love.

Country lovin’ ain’t always sweet

Sometimes it feels like it’s just the heat!

Lost my boots, left behind my hat —

Well, they ain’t got an app for that!

Country lovin’ ain’t always fair

But it’s better than bein’ here, alone.

Wish I had a second chance to touch her hair,

To show her how my love has grown,

Finally tell her how much I care.

I just wish she’d pick up her phone.

Steamy nights, full of stars…

How I wonder where you are.
