why do roses have thorns?

with sharp angles that cut you deep

is it the prize to be paid for beauty

or to protect the treasure on top?

can it be to create suffering to earn the crown

or simply a way to have balance in nature

what are we if not oblivious

maybe we are we stuck in a tricky loop

where the outcome turns out to be

that the thorns are the real treasure

because we have to face hard truths

that even roses have their flaws.
