Homesick
As I grew older,
I told myself,
that I would leave this town-turned-city,
and live elsewhere.
The beat-up roads,
the sudden traffic,
restaurant’s early closures,
I couldn’t take it anymore.
It was like,
every little thing,
every detail of this place,
was… repetitive.
I knew every corner of the city like a favorite song.
So when I was old enough,
I moved away.
I started a new life somewhere else,
kept in touch with friends and family,
but—
after years of living in a new, fresh scenery,
I’ve, come to miss it.
The beat-up roads—
the traffic,
the early closings.
So,
after six years of being away,
I came back to my hometown.
Though the place had changed,
there were things that didn’t—
the beat-up roads,
the sudden traffic,
the early closing restaurants.
And I wouldn’t want them to.
