STORY STARTER

As a kid you won a lifetime supply of Oreos. Now that the apocalypse has happened and you still receive them no matter what, you are a target for bandits.

Write a story involving bandits trying to seize your supply of Oreos.

Top-Tier Prompt

The bandits weaved through the desert terrain, kicking up dust clouds behind their scrap-heap vehicles.

“Master, I detect intruders in the First Layer,” the bot, O.R.E.O. (short for Omnipresent Reality Enforcement Operator) said with a finger pointed to the horizon.

“Yes, I see them. Thank you, good sir. Activate the Second Layer defenses, just in case,” Reginald winked as he pulled the chocolate wafer alloy binoculars away from his eyes.

“Of course, Master,” the construct replied cheerfully, “Praise the Oreo!”

With that, O.R.E.O. made off down the steps and toward the wall, a massive wall composed entirely of Reginald’s reinforced, double-stuffed, patented (don’t get any ideas), Exxtra Crispp Oreos.

The wall stretched across miles of his land, encircling the tower from which he oversaw and guarded his estate. The world had fallen, but, by the power of Oreo, he and his family had not. Many would see them share their frosted chocolate oasis, but many would not understand —— Oreos weren’t meant to be shared. They simply cannot be.

In the distance, a bandit vehicle hit an Oreo landmine—— a massive explosion of chocolate metal shrapnel and intense, (and also patented) White-Frost energy vaporized the bandits within, forming a cloud of dark smoke and pink mist.

O.R.E.O. flipped the breaker on the Organic Radioactive Energy Oscillator in the distance, prompting a series of dark chocolate iron turrets to activate, emerge from the wall with mechanical whizzing, and begin scanning the horizon.

Just then, a rocket fired from among the bandit caravan, but the defense system interrupted the missle in mid-air, firing a single Oreo slug to intercept it. The explosion left a lingering cloud before the bandits, though after a few moments, they drove through and emerged on the other side.

The turrets began opening fire, each one of the dozen or so firing a singular, pulsating beam of White-Frost energy at their target.

Reginald watched in horror as the beams did nothing to the formation. The leading vehicle, a tank-like machine, extended a large, circular shield that seemed to be absorbing the barrage of laser fire.

“Master!” O.R.E.O. scrambled to the man’s side, “They’ve——“

“Made a shield of my lost Oreo drone. Yes. I see it,” Reginald recalled one aerial Observation, Recording, Enforcement Officer drone going offline a few weeks back. It was the first he’d lost… but what could be done?

“Shall I intercept them myself, Master?”

O.R.E.O. inquired, resting his arm cannon into his other hand.

Reginald thought for a moment.

“Are the kids still in bed?”

“SCANNING SUBSURFACE VITALITY READINGS — Yes, Master. Both the children and Ms. Oreo Queen are both soundly sleeping exactly ONE POINT THREE FOUR KILOMETERS BENEATH EAR——“

“O.R.E.O.!” the man interrupted, reminding himself to address the specificity parameter in the software,

“Please call the Operator Reinforcement Exo Outtrigging.”

“But Master! It’s still in prototype!” O.R.E.O. objected.

Reginald shot the bot a certain stare, his cold, chocolate eyes locking with the blank, white frosted glowing oracle of the machine.

“Fetching it now, Master!” O.R.E.O. exclaimed enthusiastically, lowering his arm cannon and pressing a few inputs into his chest panel.

Within moments, an exo suit lifted from a hissing hatch nearby, opening itself up for Reginald to climb in.

“If they wake, keep them occupied please, good sir,” the scientist smiled as he entered into the tight fitting armor and smiled.

O.R.E.O. nodded and saluted the man, that being one of the bits of code Reginald appreciated.

With that, Reginald leapt over the wall and into the fray, a boost of White-Frost energy propelling from the armor’s cocoa steel feet.

He landed less than thirty meters away from the foremost tank, getting a much better visual of the large Oreo shield that was once the world’s of his own hands.

Fury overtook the man as he readied the Enhanced White-Frost energy blade—— white light shot from the suit’s wrist and burned the air around him.

“Surrender or die! We don’t want your family, we want your Oreos! Lay down your arms, and we will spare your life!”

A voice called out from a speaker system attached to the tank, which now produced a series of weapons from various orfices in its thick plating.

Reginald smiled within the armor.

This is going to be a blast.

The man thought.

Little did the bandits understand, to Reginald, Oreos were family.
