Evil depends on who you ask, if you asked me Tabitha wasn’t evil at all, she was just an ordinary woman who happened to turn some annoying children into toads. Of course from the perspective of the children she’s evil … but sooome may argue that she did the world a favour. I’m not saying that’s me, I’m also not saying it’s not me either. Anyway this is the reason the kids were turned into toads.

It all happened on a typical Sunday afternoon, three young boys all by the name of John; John Turner, John Issac and John Johnson were out in the woods after Church service throwing rocks at trees of whatever boys from the 17th Century did.

As they were playing the Johns noticed a rustling in the bush up ahead, rather than approaching with caution John Turner decided to lob a rock at it. A shocked whine was heard and out of the bush came the most beautiful baby Fox anyone had ever seen.

The Johns saw this adorable creature and decided to taunt the poor thing, they chased it and threw things at it, tried to grab its tail until Tabitha Clark scooped the animal up and comforted it.

“What are you doing to my darling Foxy Woxy!?” She demanded.

You see Foxy Woxy (yes that was his name) had lost his parents to hunters and Tabitha took him in and cared for him as if he were her own.

“It’s the witch!!!” The Johns yelled in horror and prepared to scarper off.

“Not so fast you little heathens! You find yourselves taking joy from harming such an innocent creature, I will turn you into creatures that no person would want to see in their homes.”

“Oh no, Miss Clark don’t hurt us.” John Johnson laughed.

“Hurt you my dears? I wouldn’t think of it, but come here and let yourselves be known to me.”

The Johns found themselves oddly compelled to do her bidding and approached hesitantly. Tabitha chanted something that was unfortunately lost to history, but I’m sure it was epic and then just like that the boys were toads.

The boys hopped back their homes only to be faced with the brooms of their mothers shooing them out. They went back to Tabitha’s home and looked up to her with large innocent eyes. But Tabitha wasn’t fooled, she knew as soon as they were turned back they’d dob her in, so she lifted them by the legs and tossed them into her pond with a hearty laugh.

The townspeople concerned about the Johns disappearences were quick to blame Tabitha being a single woman of her certain age and she was tried and hung for witchcraft.

The records of the time say Tabitha was evil, but I’ll let you come to your own conclusion. Just as I have come to mine.
