POEM STARTER

Playing With Fire.

Write a poem which uses this as the central theme.

Duat

The shadows danced at the edge of my vision,

Lit by the flames sitting atop my torch.

Standing at the entrance plagued by indecision,

Venture deeper or back out into the scorch.

Sweat beads forming on my brow,

What lies in the depths beyond my fear.

Silence and the skittering of insects is all I hear,

All within this tomb is never for show.

My steps forward are nervous but certain,

The fire from my torch burning away cobwebs.

Earth starts to shake bringing sand down in a curtain,

Stillness returns but the air still ebbs.

Further into the depths I smell fresh water,

My throat begging for relief.

Quenching this thirst like a thief,

The flames in my torch growing weaker would not deter.

Eyes wide as my torch went out,

I fell myself falling air rushing past.

And land into a pool of water,

A faint light above me.

I break the surface,

Lungs full of air.

But this was a lair,

Looming over me a god face.
