I’m scared and alone. I don’t know my way home.

But this is different — it’s a path my dad lied to me about for years and years.

He used to say it was a place of fairy tales, of lands full of wonder… but there was always something darker beneath the words. Something he never told me.

Now, as I stand at the edge of it, the air feels colder, heavier. Every step forward feels like breaking a promise I didn’t even know I made. My heartbeat thunders in my ears, mixing with the sound of leaves crunching beneath my feet. Somewhere ahead, the path twists into darkness, and I can’t tell if I should run or keep walking. But I have to know.

I take a shaky breath and step forward.

This path isn’t just dirt and leaves… it’s every step I’ve ever taken with him.

The lies that wrapped around me tighter than chains.

The nights that smelled like fear and silence.

The promises broken like glass beneath my feet.

He said it’d be different. That he wouldn’t go back. That we’d have something better.

But here I am, walking this twisted trail, wondering if he ever meant a single shitty word.

Every step feels like carrying his shadows — and my own.

Each one heavier than the last.

And I’m not sure if this path will lead me home… or bury me in the dark he left behind.
