Return to the Ruins

You've come back but I no longer need you.

I learned to love you.

To love you through the easiest honeymoon phases but also through the hardest chapters.

I learned to be there when you needed me, to cook your favorite meals, to memorize your work schedule. I've learned to become the perfect woman by your side.

I thought I was doing exactly what you wanted.

I thought I was exactly what you wanted...until I learned I wasn't.

I was the placement holder for what you truly desired.

She was blonde, pretty, exhilarating... while I was brunette, quiet and broken.

You never told me about her.

But you didn't have to.

Your actions did.

Overtime you stopped making plans, asking about my dyad eventually you stopped coming home to me.

You had left without a word.

I didn't have to question why. I already knew.

I could never be her. Not in this lifetime or the next.

So I learned this new reality.

This painful reality.

I picked up the pieces that you carved out of me without realizing.

I learned to hold and comfort myself.

I learned to be okay with the fact that you weren't coming back.

I learned to be okay with zero apologies and the lack of accountability on your end.

And slowly but surely life became bearable again.

I can't say life returned to how it was because the truth is you will always haunt me.

But now as I stand here looking at your face I feel

Saddened.

Anger.

Betrayal.

Hollow.

I was okay with you never coming back. And now that you have, I have to deal with this pain all over again.
