WRITING OBSTACLE
Submitted by Frankie Famighetti
Create an origin story for a common saying, such as 'break the ice' or 'once in a blue moon'.
Your story should explain how this expression came to be, and why it means what it does.
A Bird In The Hand
“Ya see what I mean,” Daryl said, pointing with the fried chicken leg at nowhere in particular.
“It’s better to eat this with your hands, tastes better that way.”
“I don’t think that’s what the saying means,” Augie replied. Such a nice time they were having at the church picnic. Why did Daryl have to start with his nonsense?
“It means it’s better to have something in your actual possession, than wishing about what you might have.”
Daryl put the chicken leg back on his plate. “Is that so.”
Augie nodded.
“Well, ain’t nothing left but wings in that bucket. Looks like you lost out.”
“Daryl, I’m a vegan.”
“See? There’s no reasoning with vegans.”
