POEM STARTER
"She dropped her dress, and her inhibitions, at the door."
This is an example of a syllepsis, where the meaning of a verb (here 'dropped') is both physical and metaphorical. Write a poem that includes a syllepsis (do not use the example).
Steady on the Road
Falling down the stairs because the tiles are to loose to get by
Falling in love because when I looked I had to bat my eyes
Steady on the road as my hands feel shaky
Steady in the class so the material doesn't break me
Up into the air because the ground was to crowded
It's quiet down there but up here I feel calm
The new normal isn't normal yet
But its better than the first time we met
Unsure of where I'm going
But the wheels are still turning
All this material that I'm learning
Heart beats fast
Time goes fast
Looking back at the past I had it easy
But during that time I wouldn't have believed me
I feel like now is hard
But years later I'll be fanning myself in the yard wondering where did all the time go
All the rain
No more summer so there's snow
It's been a while now
Life's a pile now
I've done so much I've gone so far
Yet I'm still trying to learn how to drive my car
I know I'll go far and sure it takes time
Take a piece of the pie while the road takes mine
