Playing With Fire
Mommy pick up the matches
Tells me to step back
She walks toward the fire places and scrapes the match against the box
The fireplace is aglow
Mommy is talking to me,
she is going to grab more wood
She tells me to stay away from the fire
I smile so she’ll know I’ll be good
Mommy smiles back and then leaves
I watch the fire for a little bit and than get bored
I think of how pretty it is
How easy it would be to reach out and just touch them
They look like streamers
That Mommy put up for my fourth birthday last week
I reach out
The fire is warm
The heat burns my hand but I think of the streamers
How pretty they were and much fun I had with them
But then I trip on something
The poker
I fall headfirst
Into the fire
