Gone

chapter 1 part 3

The five friends turn toward the body and stood there awkwardly for a minute. They slowly release each other's hands; all except for Carlee who keeps hers wrapped tightly around Luca's.

Trey clears his throat and pushes past them all. "So, it's great we all agree on this guy being Dylan's dad, but... what now?"

"I vote we get back to our sleepover," Amber raised her hand high.

Carlee shook her head furiously. "No way! This is way better than a sleepover! If you want to stay down here and see what other creepy stuff there is, then say 'ay!' "

"Ay!" Trey and Carlee shouted in unison.

Luca backed away toward Amber. The two left by the body tilted their heads.

"Sorry, guys," Luca said. "I don't want to get in more trouble than I already am."

Carlee huffed. "Fine, you two can go back inside. Trey, Dylan, and I will explore some more."

Luca gently guided Amber up the steps. "Let's go."

Right as they poked their heads over the top of the stairs, they froze. Carlee and Trey broke off their whispering when they noticed.

"What's wrong?" Carlee asked tentatively.

Luca blindly started reaching for a door and pulled it shut. Amber hurried to do the same. An axe flashed in the moonlight. Luca tackled her out of the way and they rolled down the stairs. He scrambled back up to hold the doors.

"Someone get me a rake!" he shouted.

Trey glanced around the room for one, spotting it in a corner. He darted over and tossed it to Luca. The freckled boy shoved the rake in between the handles.

"What the hell was that?!" Trey threw up his hands once they took a moment to breath. "I can't believe this. First we find out your parents exorcize people," he points an accusatory finger at Luca. "And now we're going to get axe murdered," he slumped down by some boxes. "Worst sleepover ever."

"It wasn't my idea to come down here," Luca reminded him with a raised brow.

Trey looked up. "Hey, don't you turn this on me! This is _your_ house!"

"Okay, stop you two!" Carlee growled. "We just need to think about this. It looks like the axe guy is--"

"Guys," Amber whispered. "Where'd Dylan go?"

Luca straightened up and grazed his eyes over every bit of room he could see. Sure enough, Dylan was no where to be seen anymore.

Wonderful.
