Waking Up Alone
Chapter 1 The day seemed to go faster than usual. Sara thought to herself as she closed the door to her three daughters room. At one three and five they were only reason Sara was still here. In her early teens life had been hard on her and before she got pregnant with her oldest she had no reason to live. She was living on the street since she was only ten years old. The lights were off but she had no trouble going across the hall to the bedroom she shared with her husband. The carpeted hallway masked any noise her footsteps would have made. The walls were covered in pictures of her small family. Looking over the pictures a black shadow was lingering on her last family picture. It only lasted a second and was gone. Sara blinked and it was gone but there was still sinking feeling in the back of her mind. Opening the bedroom door the only noise to be heard was air conditioner blowing in the back window over the bedroom. Her husband Benny was sound asleep. Sara felt bad for him knowing he had worked a long week and needed a break. Not that she was not also tired. The large room held there queen size bed two long dressers and a walk in closet. When they were looking for a house she had to choose between a walk in closet or a master bath and the closet won out. She spent very little time in the bathroom anyway. Slipping off her long night shift, she climbed into bed and kissed her husband goodnight. He smiled but otherwise did not stir. Moments later Sara slipped off to sleep as a bad feeling crept into the pit of her stomach.

Waking Up Alone
Chapter 2 As Sara opened her eyes she immediately knew that something was wrong. There was no obvious signs but in her gut she knew. She rolled over to see if her husband was still asleep but he was gone. This in itself was not surprising, as he often went to work before she woke up. What was disturbing was the fact that his side of the bed looked like he had never slept in it. Even though she was already concerned she did not immediately jump out of bed. Her mind still could not accept the fact that something was wrong. As she looked at the ceiling trying to figure out what was going on something else struck her as strange. There was no sound coming from the house. The three kids never slept in. At this time at least one of them would have the tv blaring in the living room waking the rest of the house. Sara threw the blankets aside and dashed from the room. “Lena, Carol, Cindy, are y’all awake!” She yelled despite how close there room was. She was only greeted by silence. Throwing open the door she charged into the room like a person possessed. She was not even trying to hide the panic in her voice. She threw off the covers of a full sized bed only to see be greeted by an empty bed. Things were getting even weirder when she noticed that there was only one bed in the room.
