Last Moments

Rose Thornton

1 min read

I could see the sky beneath my feet

Or perhaps above my feet.

Nonetheless, I was walking on the sky

As the crows began to gather

I pondered what would go first

My eyes

My skin

My lips

I hoped I would be a long awaited meal

Perhaps I could still do some good

Perhaps I could still save something

Even if it were a crow.

I wondered how badly it would hurt,

When they are away at me.

Dazed and foggy ...

Once Again

Rose Thornton

1 min read

Once again you broke my heart

Once again you shattered my soul

Once again you took my confidence and smothered it

I don’t know why I keep letting you.

When I see you I should want to run away

Far away

Somewhere only I know

Somewhere you can’t follow me

I should want you to be gone.

But I don’t.

And I don’t know why.

I’ll keep my guard up this time.

I’ll be stronger this time.

I’ll try one again...

Love Letter

Rose Thornton

1 min read

Dear Jake

I love you.

I love you from the bottom of my heart and the depths of my smile.

I love they way your voice sounds early in the morning

I love the way your hair sticks up at night

I love the way you sing when I have bad dreams

I love the way you make me lemonade on hot summer days.

You make me smile when you walk into a room

You make me laugh when I feel like burying myself in mud and ne...

Stay

Rose Thornton

1 min read

Please stay here with me.

I know you’re in so much pain.

Stay for strawberries.

They are joy in a bite

Love in a swallow

Stay for strawberries.

The pain is so much

I know how hard you have fought.

Stay just a little longer

I’ll buy you strawberries.

Let the flavor of summer roll on your tongue

Let the joy of hot days warm your heart

Let a little rebellion into your mind

Tell your pain it can’t ...

Let’s See Where This Goes

Rose Thornton

1 min read

You say you hate me and your afraid

But I know that’s not the case.

Your braver than me

You eat the mightiest challenges with ease

So why not love me?

I promise not to break your heart

Even if you try and blow mine apart

I promise to always laugh when I fail

Even if you’re the one who put rocks on the trail

I promise to always pull down my height

Even if I don’t completely block out the light

Curse You

Rose Thornton

1 min read

Nobody knows. Nobody feels. I scream at the sky, crying blood because of the curse.

I was cursed by the warlocks at birth, to be a servant for all my days. My souls burns inside of me as the warlock twists his hand.

“Now you see?” he asks. Quietly, slowly, so even my sluggish and hazy brain can understand. “I needed you to kill her, you told me you would. And yet I can still hear her breathing.”

When Words Are Gone

Rose Thornton

2 min read

You don’t understand when I whisper, I know my words are a mess. They aren’t coming out the way I want them to. They don’t mean what I do. And I don’t know how to fix it.

I reach for your face and you let me hold you, even though everything in you is screaming at you to run away. Because I fucked up. I really, really fucked up. There will never be enough words to tell you how sorry I am.

The Five Stages Of Grief

Rose Thornton

2 min read

I see you lying still and I think

“That’s not you. You’re gone. That thing is not you.”

Just a normal body

Sitting in the bathtub

Maybe this girl’s on her period

Because the water’s red and smells like death.

She can’t be you

Because you were never still.

Always moving, always

You would never lie so still.

I can’t feel anything.

It can’t be you.

It’s not you.

You’re not gone.

But you are.

It’s...

Long Live The Queen

Rose Thornton

3 min read

I look up from the papers littering my desk to the stained glass window a few feet above me. I used to sit under my mother’s chair and watch the light bouncing around up there for hours, but since I became queen I have no time for such luxury.

“Myra, please, listen to me,” Ryn begs. “You’re signing your own death warrant. Please, we can figure something out...”

“There’s no time,” I snap. I know th...

I Still Love You

Rose Thornton

1 min read

The love we shared was made of sugar

Sweet beyond measure

But it crumbled so easily.

I loved you through your hardest times

I wanted you when nobody else did

I still want you.

The sweetness of the memories we shared

The love you gave me when everybody else couldn’t care less if I lived or died

I’ll remember.

You have changed me

You have made me better

You saw me for me and loved what you saw

You ...
