You say you love her

But you don’t know

She has no one else

To call home

You’re reaching out

Wonder why

Can’t help but ponder

Your only life

You feel a sense

Of closing in

And yet you’re on

The scent again

Purpose driven

You deserve more

But it’s not what

You can afford

So you stay steady

As time goes on

And we salute you

For all you’ve done

Does it get better

Main Street

I can’t drive down Main Street

Without passing our shadows.

Fragmented figures of fiction

Who carry on carelessly,

Tripping over their ignorance,

Forgetting to be wary of time,

Thinking they will run readily

Into the past - soon enough.

Instead, they linger - lively and luminous,

Leering and choking on their laughter,

While I gaze on longingly,

Wishing to steal their moments away.

And to be so na...

Chameleon of Many Colors

You asked my favorite color

To learn what shade to be

Thinking you could figure out

How to blend in with me

You took on shapes and patterns

To distort yourself to match

Studying your subject

And developing a mask

Forcing a connection

Knowing what you stood to gain

Treating me like a level

In your manipulative game

You made it so appealing

To believe it could be real

Marco

The train is blaring its horn, angrily

But the sound only puts me at ease

It’s a familiar sound

Like a lullaby, ringing out

It tells me I’m safe and can sleep

But where are you now?

Nowhere I have found

And yet, I feel you’re not far

In the smallest of towns

I wish your voice sounded loud

as the train, so I could know where you are

Pace

I feel this empty pang of yearning for longer

Even though I’m not yet out of time

And a growing fear that time will never slow down again

Like it’s spinning out of control

And some great force was supposed to remember to reset its pace

But got caught up in more important things

I watch the sunrise and almost forget that it happened - only a moment later

The Joke 🎭

You told me once

That you felt

Like the butt of everyone else’s joke

A jester

Meant to entertain

And you did

But a mockery

Is something you made

Of yourself

To feel loved.

So don’t blame the crowd

When they laugh

At your foolishness

While you put on a show

Displaying

What you think

Of yourself

To feel seen.

You won’t see me

Standing in the crowd

Laughing

I suspect you know that

Or you wouldn’t ...
