Courage Acrostic

Aubrey Davies

1 min read

Calling your crush and saying “I like you”

Ordering pizza in another country

Understanding your friend is upset and helping

Really opening up to someone, when it’s hard

Arranging to meet up with old friends

Giving a strangers a kind smile

Everything’s brave to someone....

Gratitude.

Aubrey Davies

1 min read

Thankfulness comes in many forms,

Some joy,

Some sadness.

The joy of seeing a newborn baby,

Their parents adoration,

Grateful for the chance.

The sadness of watching a loved one leave,

As people touch the coffin,

A final thanks for their life.

The burning anger of a past fight,

Teaching you patience.

It serves you well now.

Gratitude for friends, their words of wisdom.

Support in the tough ti...

Moments Without You

Aubrey Davies

1 min read

Pitter

Patter,

Rain pours.

Pitter

Patter,

Thunder groans.

The hours of staring at a dampened patch on my pillow,

Where the soft fabric catches my tears

Like a forever in slow motion

A time continuum of fear.

A shout, a smile, a heartfelt laugh!

My eyes alight,

My face aglow.

Boom,

Crash,

Catching lightning.

Boom,

Crash,

That moment, taken by gusts of timeless wind.

Desolation in my mind as dre...

My Wish Ignored

Aubrey Davies

1 min read

I happily deceive myself once more

Sweating hands shaking now a warm embrace.

Ignore, pretend, smile, believe and keep score:

They five create the dream I always chase.

My cheeks warm, blushing, despite bitter frost,

A simple joke, I imagine aimed at me.

Ignore, pretend, smile, but belief is lost.

How I make this work out, I cannot see.

But then he speaks to me - my head won’t listen,

Butterflies.

Aubrey Davies

1 min read

Shaking hands hold the gifts,

Tiny clumps of papery bits.

Others would not see the magic,

But when she holds them she’s ecstatic.

For in her palms lie gorgeous things,

Delicate pieces of trust built into wings.

She treasures them in her blazer pocket,

And plans to hide them in a locket.

The world may not understand her joy,

In holding paper butterflies, just a toy,

But whether gifted a butterfl...

Sleep Is Impossible

Aubrey Davies

3 min read

Sometimes the only way to really forget everything is to go to sleep.

Sometimes sleep is impossible.

Sometimes it’s two am and you’re on a bus home running off minus eight hours sleep and trying to forget but you just cannot sleep.

Not relate? Okay, maybe it’s a bit specific. But bear with me for a moment and picture this:

Peace. Silence. A chance to finally clear your mind after a busy weeken...

Time Had Never Passed So Slowly

Aubrey Davies

1 min read

Send.

The memory of the button haunts you,

Your finger lingers over where it lit the screen.

Why?

Every nerve in your body tingles,

The realisation of what you did dawns.

Delivered.

The wait is endless, the possibilities daunting,

Moments of wondering now hours of torment.

Regret.

How can one sentence ruin so many things?

How can four words destroy a friendship?

Greed.

Greedy for love, greedy for ...

Fear Of Tomorrow

Aubrey Davies

1 min read

I think I’ve spent so long worrying about losing you, I didn’t enjoy the time I had.

I always thought of how the moment would end,

While I was still enjoying it.

How we would fade out of each others lives,

No longer friends,

Until we became strangers.

It scared me and I did what I always do,

I dwelled on the fear.

It consumed me but now I can finally see

How I ruined the present worrying about the...

Her.

Aubrey Davies

1 min read

She was always top of the class,

Smart,

Sophisticated.

An author to be, and a friendly face to all.

People liked her,

But she was never popular.

She didn’t want to be.

Friends were scarce, but she was friendly always,

But she hated ‘nice’ as a trait.

Too plain.

Crushes came, exams went,

She loved life

Or she loved her dreams of life, at least.

But no matter how good her life looked to others,

She ...

The Dreadful Silence

Aubrey Davies

1 min read

Deafening.

Pounding at my heart.

A never ceasing drumming line,

With no end in sight.

Murderous.

The feeling choking me.

That I didn’t do well, did it all wrong,

I have no excuses left.

Terrifying.

Biting at my nails in fear.

The consequences of what I’ve done,

Whatever it is.

Shaking.

Clawing into my hands,

Dreading what comes next, the future,

But I still don’t get the past.

Tapping.

My feet...
