Terms:

Kylin = Woman (pronounced K-i-lin)

Kylon = Man (pronounced K-i-lon)

Kaomsl = the species of alien (pronounced Cow-mis-all)

Valion = The Kaomsl's term for space (pronounced V-all-e-on)

Laeners = Scientists whoms job it is to learn about new planets (pronounced L-ay-ners)

I sit at my desk, staring into the never ending darkness before me. I didn't think that the ancient cuboid from the strange blue planet that rests thousands of kilometres beneath my feet would take so long to translate. Others suspected that the translations many take centuries. Becuase of this, they all voted that I - the young and naive kylin Kaomsl - should be the one to stand watch. Here I am, six years later, still watching, still waiting.

A ding drags me from my thoughts. I sigh and allow my eyes to scan the room before me, with them finally landing on the ancient cuboid in its resting place beneath the scanner and the screen beside it. The green words on the screen has me jumping to my feet and running towards it

'YES!' I cry in delight, bouncing up and down on the balls of my feet.

'Shush, this is a quiet zone ma'am' an elderly Kylon whispers, his voice filled with a quiet sort of anger.

'Sorry sir' I respond quietly. The kylon nods before walking away.

I turn my attention back to the screen and tap it once to clear the completion notification. My brow creases as I read the translation. Thinking that I may have read it wrong leads me to re-reading it severval times but no, every time it says the same thing. The words 'Why are you ghosting me?', cause the crease in my forehead to deepen.

'Ghosts?!' I cry in shock, the old kylon growls at me from across the room.

'Sorry!' I say quietly, wincing at my second slip up.

'How in Valion can ghosts be real?' I mutter to self before moving to alert the other Learners about my discovery.
