Write a short story which contains this line.

Loose End

"Now, I know things around here have been hectic, but please, allow me to give you something really worth your time." The dean sat up from his desk and walked over to the door, motioning for Chester to follow him. "The thing is, Mr. Logen, we try to maintain an accommodating atmosphere here at UV and your little, what do you guys call it again? A 'side hustle?'" Chester shook his head. "Whatever the case, it got in the way."

The pair walked out of the office and down the hall towards the stairs.

"In the way of what?"

"You came here to study ancient history, right?" Chester nodded. "That's a fine choice. Plenty of opportunities in the future, if you know where to look. We just encourage that students make their hobbies more of an 'outside of class' sort of deal. It can interfere with others trying to make their hobbies function."

"This wasn't a hobby. This was justice. I need to know what is right."

"As we all do. I totally understand."

"I don't think you do. If you did, you and your little butt buddy hand puppet would've given me more than just an invitation to some pathetic 'exclusive' seminar, thinking that would fix everything without anyone but me doing the heavy lifting or reflecting poorly on you people."

The dean's cheerful demeanor faltered a little. "I'll politely ask you to refrain from the name calling and egregious accusations."

"Well, I'm done 'politely asking.'" Chester mocked the dean using air quotes. "I have my case, and if you plan to stand in my way, I'll just put you down for 'Witness Tampering.' Now comply or settle in court."

The dean sighed. "You were a great student here. You leave me with no other choice." Chester's eyes widened with rage. "I have to bar you from participating in anymore courses at the University of Venator."

Chester fought the urge to take the dean by the shirt and toss him back down the stairs. Instead, he calmed himself and responded through gritted teeth. "If that's how things are going to be."

The pair had been climbing the stairs up to the fourth floor as they spoke. Chester had never needed to come up here, so he was a little surprised to see a single door at the top. As Chester made the final comment, the dean unlocked the door. "However, I still want to try to part on somewhat amicable terms, so please. These young men will show you all want to know." Behind the locked door was an attic type room. In it were five men in dark robes. The three in the middle had some kind of symbols painted into their foreheads.

The dean shut the door; the light of a single darkened window shown on Chester like a spotlight. "Gentlemen, wonderful news! I have found the thorn that have been digging in our side recently. This is Chester Logen. Do with him what you will." The three in the middle drew bows with steel arrows. The man in the middle shot Chester through the head while the other two pierced his chest and heart. Chester fell to the ground.

After a few seconds, the outer two went over to remove the body. The dean smirked, mocking Chester's corpse. "You know, gosh, I have to stop getting blood all over these hardwood floors. The RA'll flip!"

"Shall I clean this right away, sir?"

"Nah. I'll have my professionals come by to take care of it." The dean answered. The two men wrapped up Chester's body in an extra robe and carried him away. The man in the middle snapped his fingers and the others followed. "What of his family?"

"Have his dorm room cleared and roommate report to my office. In a few days, we report him missing." The man nodded and walked out.
