POEM STARTER
Not all those who wander are lost.'
Compose a poem inspired by this popular phrase.
Wolf Song
The fur on my neck sticks up
when I hear their howling song
But I don't respond but
tuck my tail between my legs
and turn the other way
I wander through the dying trees knowing
I am helpless and alone
For my pack, they have abandoned
me because I claim
to be the runt
The trees have stopped breathing
And the wind has stopped speaking
This part of the wood is unknown
to them and the rest of the forest
So at least I'll be left alone
When I stop to catch my breath
and lick my wounded flanks
I hear the wolf call once more
and I am shunned
and pulled into a trance
When I open my mouth to speak
its strange for not a word comes out
But I hear it again and I tilt my head back
and my calls echo into the night
and I give away my place
But my words are strong and bold
They are words I've never heard me say before
My howls are louder still
And so I give the forest
its answering call:
I am here, the runt of the pack
And I’ll proudly stand here tall
For I know these woods better than anyone
So that means that even without a pack
I will never be lost
