STORY STARTER
As the pair crossed the roaring river, they noticed a figure waiting for them on the other side…
Failed escape
"Not much longer to go" I sighted as we arrived at the river. We had been fleeing since last night. fleeing from the traffickers that had taken us. They had done unspeakable things to the both of us. We decided that we would rather die trying to run away than rot away in the horrific bunkers where they kept us. So we ran.
The river was freezing, my muscles were in agony, yet I had never felt such relief in over 10 years. I looked at Jeremiah, the love of my life who had escaped with me.
-"We're so close love, once we crossed the river we no longer will be in their territory" he shivered while grabbing my hand a little tighter.
It was foggy and we couldn't see the shore yet, but it wasn't far. I could sense it.
-"We're going to be free" I whispered tears of joy swelling in my eyes. The river was getting more shallow by the step, we were there! Almost frozen to death but there!
-"What's that?" Jeremiah asked while pointing to a silhouette on the shore, covered by fog.
That was the last thing I heard before two gunshots flew through the air.
A scream of agony.
Jeremiah's bloodied body sinking into the lake.
With my final bit of life, I looked at Jeremiah.
We smiled.
Because at least we had died trying.
