The Girl Who Glowed like the Moon
It was a rainy day. The clouds were bleak and dark. The alley I was at was gloomy and miserable. It was suffocating to even look at all the people passing by. They all just blurred from me as I passed through them.
Then out of nowhere a kid who looked like he was around 10 was getting battered with a stick. He had bruises all over his arms and legs. A huge crowd formed as time passed on, and I heard gossip of everyone around me.
"I heard he stole bread again today." Whispered an old lady to her acquaintance.
"I heard his family is sick; that's probably why he was stealing today. Whispered another guy.
I sighed.
I headed towards the guy who was hitting the kid and pulled out a couple of coins. Here, stop hitting him and give him the bread. I'll pay for it, I proclaimed.
He scoffed and clicked his tongue. “Tch. Next time won’t end with just a few bruises.” Then he spat near my boot and walked off.
I looked at the kid and asked him, "are you okay?"
He said nothing—just stumbled forward and hugged me. “Thank you, kind sir!” And like that, he bolted into the alley’s shadows. The crowd was getting disbanded, and I sighed again and left my way.
I thought to myself, why does my pockets feel so light? I hurried and checked my pockets to see if everything was still there. No way he pickpocketed my wallet. I thought. I spun, scanning the streets around me for that kid.
Suddenly, Mist appeared around me. a soft strumming clearly made from an instrument. Out of the mist, a girl with violet hair and brown eyes appeared. Everyone around started to disappear; no, more like everyone around me started to blur out. She had soft white skin that seemed to glow, gentle eyes, a small nose, and really soft lips.
She said in a soft voice, "Is this what you are looking for, sir?"
I was astonished. I stared at her, admiring her beauty. Yes, you can even say this is love at first sight.
"Who… are you?" I said. She didn't answer me but was smiling at me while her hand was out trying to signal me to take my wallet. "Ah... sorry," I awkwardly said as I took back my wallet. Our hands touched. She then chuckled and said, "Thanks, you are a nice person." My whole body was hot. My face blushed. I was left speechless and didn't know what to say except I needed to say something, or else I felt like she would disappear forever.
But the fear of disappointing her was on the tip of my mind, and I couldn't bring myself to say anything. With that, she suddenly strummed her instrument with her left hand. At that moment she turned around and walked away. I tried to reach out my hand to grab her to ask her who she was. But before I could, she suddenly disappeared into the mist.
There were violet petals on the ground where she disappeared. But I could still hear the instrument. I frantically looked around trying to find her; however, she was nowhere to be found. The mist around me slowly disappeared. The background people talking in the background can now be heard. People started to unblur.
Sighing, I wished I could see her again. I mumbled.
