STORY STARTER

As the pair crossed the roaring river, they noticed a figure waiting for them on the other side…

The Mobility of Trees

"Why do we have to go in a boat?" Xiao Xin asked.

"Because that's the only way we can explore the River of the Walking Trees," Huo Linghun explained. He was already in the boat, holding out his hand to help Xiao Xin into it.

Xiao Xin didn't like to be on the water. But he was very interested to see walking trees. And exploring like this was important to Huo Linghun too- this would also be his first time seeing the walking trees.

"If you really don't want to we don't have to go," Huo Linghun said.

Xiao Xin took his hand and stepped into the boat. "I want to explore with you," he said. He wrapped his arm around him and added, "Just don't let me fall in."

Huo Linghun smiled at him. "I won't."

As they traveled down the river in the boat Xiao Xin said, "I thought trees couldn't walk."

"They can't," Huo Linghun. "These trees only look like they're walking."

Once they arrived at the place where the walking trees were Xiao Xin could see why they were called that. With their above ground roots they looked like they were taking a stroll through the swampy river. Some of the roots were so tall they even looped over the water, the boat drifting underneath them.

They were beautiful and fascinating, but Xiao Xin's favorite sight to see was Huo Linghun's face as he looked around at scenery that was new to him. He clearly enjoyed seeing new things, it was no wonder why he traveled so much and so far.

After watching Huo Linghun for some time Xiao Xin leaned against him and said, "I'm glad we came."

Huo Linghun pulled him even closer and kissed his head. "Thank you, my Xiao Xin."
