End of One, Start of Another
Huo Linghun had always been a carefree traveler; it was something that came very easily to him. It never bothered him that he didn't have much, it made traveling even easier. There was nothing and no one holding him back.
But now it seemed that there was.
When he first met the nameless person he knew he wanted to help him. He liked to help people and did so often, but this one became more special than he could have expected. This person didn't seem to have any knowledge of himself and Huo Linghun had wanted to at least give him a chance to learn. Along the way he got to know this person who didn't even know himself, and he realized he wanted to do more than just give him a chance. He wanted to be there with him for every step of his journey.
Even if that meant his own journeys had to slow down and become fewer.
As he sat and watched his new companion he realized that this wasn't exactly a bad thing. He enjoyed his travels, seeing all kinds of new things and helping people where he could... but it was lonely. It was easy to travel when alone but it was just so lonely. Unlike this person before him, he did know himself, but there was no one else who really knew him.
As the two slowly got to know each other he learned how nice it was to know someone so closely, to want to always know more of them. And just how nice it was to be known in return, to be seen as someone with thoughts and feelings beneath the surface. It felt like he had been missing an important part of himself all along, like he'd been somehow living without his heart.
So he began to call his nameless friend Xiao Xin, his little heart. And he knew he couldn't just leave him behind and return to his carefree lifestyle. Despite this enormous change he found that it didn't bother him at all. Perhaps he had been unknowingly searching for something in all his travels and had finally found it.
Huo Linghun slowly became aware of a hand waving in front of his face and the gentle repetitive calling of his name. "Linghun?"
"Ah yes?"
"It was like you were asleep with your eyes open," Xiao Xin informed him.
"Just a bit lost in thought," Huo Linghun assured him.
Xiao Xin, who was unaccustomed to figures of speech like this, asked, "Did you find your way again?"
Huo Linghun smiled. "Yes, my Xiao Xin. Yes I did."
