WRITING OBSTACLE

Write a fast-paced scene that takes place during a rush hour.

There doesn't need to be a dramatic plot, but think about how you can create and maintain a busy and rushed feeling in a short story.

Life is Interesting: If only there were more of it

"Make sure to keep him steady!"

I didn't care if I died.

So, one could only imagine how the sirens roaring above me annoyed me so.

I could feel my heart slowing down as the ambulance sped up.

"Hold on, baby! It's going to be okay! Just don't close your eyes!"

Why would they let her in?

If I'm going to die, I hope it's sooner rather than later. My mother can be such a nag.

"He laughed! My baby laughed! Hurry up! How long does it take to get there!"

Her voice was like sheet metal going through a cheese grater to my ears.

"Shit!"

"Shit what?"

There was traffic.

I'm going to die to traffic.

Funny.

"Just...Around!!!"

"I'll try."

"Oh...goodness...who...hired...I'll sue!!"

"Ma'am...Calm down!"

The ambulance shook violently, and I felt a new pain going across my entire body.

"My baby...He fell!!"

"That's why...steady!"

I could barely understand anything now.

I could only feel.

Tears.

It was hard to distinguish my mother's from my own.

"...Wake up...Please!"

I hate when she cries.

I hate it.

I realized it seconds before I died.

That I didn't want to.
