Fourteen is a weird, in between age. You’re not a young teen with no responsibility, or a young adult whose life is catching up quickly. You could be in high school or middle school, but either way you’re not quite in either.

When I was fourteen, I had two friends. One was fifteen, the other was thirteen. They both had guys that they were talking to, and they would talk to me about them. Without someone of my own, I felt even more in between. I wondered when it would be my turn.

When would I have someone special to dream about? But for now I cried in the dark, wondering why I didn’t seem to fit anywhere
