The Star And The Fool

My first memory I have is of standing in the rain, staring at a big white building ahead of me. I belive I was around 5 at the time, was carrying a small brown satchel with all my meger belongings, and was wearing a yellow rain jacket that had slots in the back for my wings; That’s right I’m a winged anglic looking hybrid with fluffy wings, feathered ears, and a long tail. Actually that’s why I was standing there in the rain staring at a building of white and cement, currently beyond little me’s understanding.

Next to me stood several men in black carrying what, looking back on it, were weapons and other lethal tools no child should be surrounded by. Next to me stood one of the men holding an umbrella. Behind us was a Van I had just stepped out of. He nudges me forward with his hand as a gaurds of the facility approached, and I being only five followed behind, struggling a bit to lift my head too high given the heavy metal collar around my neck.

As we walked I remember the men discussing something, likely me, but I couldn’t tell you what it was exactly. Afterall I was more focused on starting at the ground and trying to avoid stepping on cracks, or have my bag touch one. Afterall if I stepped on a crack-actually, I don’t remember that part either. Maybe I thought the earth would open up and swallow me whole and trapping me in it. I wonder, what if that had happened, would being stuck in the ground be better than the cold white walls that already were destined to be my own personal prison.

Eventually though I come to a sudden stop as I bump into one of the lab gaurd’s legs. I remember him turning to glare at me, causing me to fearfully shuffle back, still taking time to avoid stepping on a crack however. I glance around and notice we’re all infront of a sci-fi looking door, and there stood a female with black hair and a long white coat with a nameplate I was to young to read. She gave me a small warm smile before sliding a key card into a reader. Soon enough the big white door thing opened as the lady turned around and addressed me derictly.

“Here is where your new living space is, can you go set up your bed for me and introduce yourself to your new firend while I talk with these nice men here?”

Not knowing what else to do I gave her a small nod before entering in. I glance around the room I just entered and noted It appeared to be like those kid bedrooms that siblings on tv share, minus the gray and white coloring of the walls and some of the furniture. Derictly Infront of me was a large bookshelf crammed full of childern books as well as strangely many binders. I shrugged it off however, probably assuming they were just other books. Glancing to my right I notice a white desk and chair neatly organized with caryons and paper. Not too far from it was a dark gray toy bin that was fully open. Glancing down at the ground I noticed it covered in various different types of toys, so that checked out.

I’m brought back to my senses as the big robotic door suddenly closed loudly behind me, startling me badly as my ears pin down and I rush to cover them to sheild them from the very unpleasant loud bang.

“Not very keen on noise I take it?” A voice suddenly called out, jumpscaring me for the second time as I whip around quickly, my arms up in a likely poor defensive position.

There, on top of a dark gray bunk bed, sat another girl. A girl with long purple hair, yellow cat-like eyes, and yellow spots on her skin that seemed to glow. She was dressed in a simple white gown. She smiled at me, revealing her sharp canines as she introduces herself.

“My name is Cassie. What’s yours?”

I blink a couple times, holding my small bag closer. Than with the meekest voice, the only one I could muster up;

“Sarah.”

Cassie’s smile grew larger and seemingly more predatory as she tilts her head to the side.

“Sarah huh.”

She pushes herself off the top of the ladder, landing gracefully on her feet before approaching, her hand already out.

“Nice to meet you, need help with your bag?”

I didn’t know it yet but Cassie would eventually grow up to be you, Caspin. A strong, intelligent, and kind young man, and an amazing Hero. A true beacon of Hope that would shine for all the disadvantaged and downtrodden. Of course that would come at some costs, one of which would be leaving me behind of course, because unlike you I could never overcome the role beaten into me so young.

Yet still as I gaze up at the night sky, the glimmering stars being that what gives you strength, I can’t help but think of if I could have followed you, what would my life be like now. Instead of being a villainous theif, would I instead be a hero like you? Would I be praised and adored by the public and the press alike. Would I, a mere Foolhardy girl, even be able to stand sholder to sholder with you in the light.

All I know is that in my sleep I still dream about you, and that admits the chaos, I would still love to, for one last time, fade peacefully in your arms again.
