POEM STARTER

The Burden of Memory
Write a poem that could have this as its title.
The Burden Of Memory
It holds me down
Down in the water
It lets me drown
It lets me wander
Deserts and oceans
Watches me falter
Watches me trip
And bleed
Over my own blade
Memory
It ties me to you
It sows my skin up
It pulls me through
And above
Memory
You are why I panic
You are why I shake and cry
When I wake up in the middle of the night
God, memory!
Why?
Why?!
What did I do as a child
To have these scars as early as five
Why did I think as a child
That I wasn’t strong enough
And I had to lie
Why did you sow my mouth shut
Why couldn’t I explain the cuts
And why when I’m past it
I’m past my relapses
I’m pass every one of these ‘stages’
I think one person can have!
YOU
Come back
To haunt me
You
Come back
Every time, memory
