The Worthhart Curse
…but everything changed now that I am older. Memories pass as the clouds drift further and further away. The deep blue sky is left, open and alone, like a little fish in the big blue ocean. My name is Amelia Worthhart, the daughter of Florence Worthhart. My family was long ago given a curse. Many people believe it’s just our family’s bad luck, but I believe the misfortune is much more than that. My grandma Amelia, died long ago by a heart attack, she was the sweetest person I knew. However, my mom would disagree. My grandma would tell me stories about great grandpa Sam all the time. One story about how he hunted a shark, and another about how he built our house, Domus. ( Yes, we named our house). Domus, would always make sounds because of the way it was built. Picture this, a lopsided lollipop, with different sections of the house painted in different colors and styles.
Now, let’s get back to the Worthhart family curse. My little brother, Luca, was a very curious and energetic kid. He would always sneak outside to look at the Finches and and Robins. But one day, like any other day, after Luca got scolded by my mom and grounded for a week ( because he would constantly get out)…

MY BIRTHDAY IN 5 DAYS!! I CANT WAIT TO BE 8
Mom yelled at me again, I didn’t even do anything wrong. She tells me I can’t go outside but, it’s so cool out there. I just wanted to see my friend Edward the Finch, and Bob the robin. Since their the only friends I have.

I don’t know why I can’t go outside of the room, I’m so tired of staying my room. Mom won’t let me out, when I ask she doesn’t respond. Ughhh I’m so bored. Wait, I see Edward outside my window. He is so lucky, he can fly anywhere we wants. Maybe one day I could grow wings like him and fly too. I’ll grow a sharp beak like him, and talons. There is a vine that is growing out of my window filled with Mistletoe berries, maybe if I eat like him too, I’ll be able to be him. I’ll be able to be free like him, and go outside. After I took a nap, I woke up as a Bird, I had long wings, sharp talons, and a beak. I looked out the window and knew what I had to do, fly. (diary ends)
( Back to Amelia )
…that’s when my brother finally decided he would go outside and fly.
It’s tragic, my mother never told me what happened to Luca, or ever even talked about him at all. But after I found his diary, I finally figured it out. At least he is free now, he can fly anywhere he wants without getting yelled at by anyone.
That’s just one of the sad stories of our family, this curse really is a misery. Now let’s talk about my older sister named Lauren. She was 16 when she left this world. At least Lauren went out as a true artist, as the world would say.

*today is a tragic day, another death from the Worthhart Family*
*The great Lauren Worthhart, known for her famous song “Dead to You” a heat wrenching song about losing a loved one, has died tragically*
1st News reporter, Sally Smith: *Wow! Such a great singer has passed, how devastating for the Worthhart family.*
2d News reporter, Tom Hillside: *That’s right such a heart breaking story, it was said by police they never found her body, how horrible*
1st News reporter, Sah Smith: *Really? How horrifying. What happened? *
2d News reporter, Tom Hillside: *Apparently, said by her boyfriend, [unknown], she had a hard day at work the day of the accident, and was taking a walk to blow off some steam. Then a random person jumped in her way asking if Lauren wanted a tattoo. Lauren, obviously said no, but apparently the guy begged her just for money, or food. Lauren was frightened and tried to runaway, but the man wouldn’t let her out of his grasp. It was said that she was pinned to a table in the shop as the crazed man tattooed her with words, or maybe pictures, killing her by blood loss. But since her body was never found we don’t know exactly what was tattooed on her, it would’ve been truly “beautiful”work of art. Confusingly, when [ unknown] was tracking her location and responding to text messages, there wasn’t a single tattoo shop on the block. There hasn’t been any reports on the situation either. A complete mystery. *
1st News reporter, Sally Smith: *Huh? Such a mystery, hopefully someone can get on this case huh, Lauren Worthhart truly is “Dead to you.”
Hahaha, well then we need to carry on with the traffic hours today, Hanson street is busier then ever, it seems a train has fallen off its tracks onto the street. This mayhem is causing traffic to be heavier than usual. Tom Hillson how is the….*
That was the last time we heared about Lauren on the news, and as expected no one bothered to look into the case. No one knows who the murder is, and no one cares to inspect. I wouldn’t either, there hasn’t been anymore incidents with a crazy tattoo person walking around tattooing people to their deaths. It’s cringy to say out loud that you got killed by being tattooed.
Now to mom, she has always been hardheaded, but caring. She tried her best to keep the curse away from us kids. Did as far to lock us in our rooms, but we still managed to get out. After, my big sister died my mom lost a lot of hope. She divorced my dad when I was born, and I have never really ment him before so I wouldn’t know what he was like. However, I have seen pictures of him with mom and a younger Lauren. My dad held my mom close in the picture as mom carried little Lauren in her arms. That’s my favorite picture with dad in it because dad and mom looked so happy. But happiness didn’t last long in our family and mom was once again mad at the world. My mom died in a car accident on her way to check out a new house to move into just me and her. Grandma Amelia didn’t want to leave and begged mom to stay. I understand grandma, she has lived here for most of her life and cherished the house as much as me. But I will always be her favorite. When my grandma figured out what happened to mom, she told me and we both had nothing to say to each other. We were both used to death, and the news that someone died. It’s sad yes, but in our family there isn’t a choice to live or die.
The last victim of the curse, or so I think, that I haven’t explained to you is the death of grandpa Jacob. Grandpa was terrified of the curse, he made up his mind to bury himself underneath the house just to stay away from the curse, and the fear of dying. He lived off of canned beans, and peaches. Grandpa Jacob lived underneath the house for 20 years. 20 years living off of canned beans and peaches. 20 year of living alone in the dark. On his 20th year of living underneath the house he realized he has forgotten his family’s faces, he has forgotten what it was like to eat real food, to take a actual shower, and to see light. On his 20th year he decided to get up and be brave. Grandpa Jacob felt confident, bold, and willing to fight whatever monster was out there killing his family. And when we opened the hatch of his hole, he got up and found light. The feeling he had was so overwhelming and powerful, he felt strong and capable to fight anything. But sadly those feelings didn’t last for long. As a train whipped by turning the sharp corner, appearing out of knowhere and he found himself right in the middle of train tracks. What misfortune, what sad death. On that day 2 lives where lost, one was my grandpa Jacob’s, and the other was the poor train conductor’s trying to turn off the train but ended up killing grandpa Jacob anyway. Since the train steered out of control too quickly the train flew off its tracks and on a street called Hanson.
As you know, the curse, had a beginning and it all started with my great grandfather. My great grandpa Sam built Domus to protect us from the deaths that the curse laid on us, but it obviously did not work. Originally there was a house in Virginia, that great grandpa Sam and great grandma Edith lived in, but soon many of their family members started dying tragic deaths after great grandpa Sam killed the shark, and so they moved to Main near Rockland. Hoping that as they moved, the curse that was killing everyone was left behind. Since that wasn’t the case and great grandpa Sam died after finishing Domus, the curse stayed and a new generation started with it in it. After great grandpa Sam died, great grandma Edith figured out that she was pregnant and had a child named Amelia Worthhart, my grandma.
So that’s how this curse started, and who knows when and how it will end. I, Amelia Worthhart grandaughter of Amelia Worthhart the first am giving this diary to you, Rebeca Worthhart. To give you the history of our family and to hopefully one day find peace within the clouds with my family. The clouds that I once extended my hand too when I was younger hoping to touch them as you can now.
-Amelia Worthhart
