WRITING OBSTACLE
Write a story from the perspective of someone who is intensely protective over another character.
Holiday
“It’ll only be a long weekend.” John groaned, expressing clear annoyance with my pestering.
“A long weekend in a place you’ve never been with a group of strangers. Can you see the alarm bells going off here?” I tried to stay calm but my tone only increased as I went on. It was futile. John knew that as much as I did. He always went where he wanted. I shouldn’t have spoiled him so much raising him.
“We are staying in one of the safest parts of the city. It’s not like criminals are just popping out of trash cans to get us.” John said matching my elevated tone. I couldn’t fight facts, especially without doing proper research.
“Fine. Just please be careful. I’ll drive you to the airport.” I folded, hoping to still have his good graces.
“Thanks, dad, but Julie is driving all of us to the airport. I couldn’t say no. I’ll send pictures each day so it’ll be like you’re on holiday with us!” John said with glee. He went upstairs to finish packing.
“…I’ll be on holiday alright.” I mumbled to myself, pulling up the email on my phone. ‘You’re flights have been booked! Pack your bags’. I smiled, acknowledging the irony of John’s last words to me.
I will be on holiday with you.
