POEM STARTER
Write a blank verse poem on a topic that's important to you.
Blank verse poetry doesn't rhyme, but has a very strict structure which builds a melody through rhythm. (One way to create this is to structure each line with the same amount of syllables, and the same syllabic stresses, like you might if you were writing the verses of a song.)
silence
I lie awake beneath the ticking stars
their ancient light still spilling through my shade
my thoughts drift out behind these bedroom bars
to places built by dreams my mind has made
the moon peaks in a quiet, ghostly face and sighs across my floor in silver lines
The night is slow yet move with steady grace
unraveling the hush with secret signs. melancholy hums soft beneath my skin,
a tune to faint to sing, too deep to show
it wraps me up with stillness held within well dawn prepares to rise and steal the glow
so let me float where quiet shadows rome
for even silent sometimes feels like home
