A coming of age novel about a young girl impelled by traditional parents to complete an ancient rite of passage in a modern and rapidly evolving world. Nestled along a mountain range Aquastilla is a peaceful village of refugees who originally fled from the Oman Kingdom. The world is at peace for now but as the Oman Kingdom expands mythical creatures are pushed farther to the edge of the world and have found solace in the mountains and forest around Aquastilla. With traditional parents Kalliope is urged to go on the long forgotten year long trek that is meant to replicate the journey the founders of Aquastilla went through fleeing the Omans.
