The year was 2045 when construction of The Institutes began across America. Small towns were abandoned as people moved to the cities. Massive technological utopias erupted across the map, cities advancing in seconds, who wouldn’t want to be a part of this evolutionary shift. With the sudden steady increase in the population, concerns quickly spread throughout the government. A ruling of the Supreme Court mandated buildings to be built in each city to house the population’s children, naming these buildings “The Institute”. Promising that all their needs be provided for from education to healthcare until their 18th birthday.

These buildings were built near the outskirts of the massive cities. The people of the city were skeptical at first, not wanting to give their children to government. Wanting the people’s cooperation they began offering a hefty sum to parents for a “trial period”, saying at anytime for 30 days they can visit their children at the facility. Many remained skeptical but a few decided to accept the money and send their kids off. The government took notice of the decisions the people made and schemed of ways to gain their trust.

By the year 2047 they managed to host in each city nearly a fourth of all children. Parents were asked to review the services provided in the facilities as they left their visits. A majority of parents rated them highly, saying “they provide the fundamentals needed for a healthy and successful lifestyle”. With the government getting testimonials of parents pleased with their services, they began retracting the reward offer and moved to advertisements.

Spreading the message of shipping their kids to these facilities. The ads were littered with the variety of positive testimonials, highlighting the positive feedback of parents. The number of children being admitted skyrocketed, that by the end of the year 2047, they housed an average of three quarters of children in each city. In the year 2048 additions were being built to accommodate the influx of children. As summer of 2049 crept in, every facility was upgraded now spanning the length of two neighborhoods.

That was the final push the government needed to push their numbers higher. The government gained rights over every child across America the day after Christmas during the year 2049. New Year celebrations cheered through the night skies of cities, cheers of liberation. The year of 2050 marked the independence of parents from their children.
