VISUAL PROMPT

Prompt submitted by Tenshi

Write a poem about what streetlights make you think of.

Artificial Light

Streetlights

Miniature sun imposters

Failing to mimic even the smallest fraction of it

Microscopic stars that blind you just as the sun

But keeping you from seeing the real stars

The pollution of the earth to the sky

Darkening our vision just as it illuminates it

But what light brings darkness without purpose?

Is it not these lights that guide us down the road

Lighting a path in the dead of night?

These artificial lights, be false as they may

Serve their purpose and do it well

The lonliest light is not alone

And in their unified solitude they spread sight
