POEM STARTER

Write a poem that describes the longing of a reader who falls hopelessly in love with a fictional character.

With My Knows

With each page, with each illustration, I can’t help the thumping of my heart, my pupils dilating.

I like the piercings drawn on them, the responses the author chose fitting for them, the dyed hair, the rebellious spark in them.

But then I read another manga, or a novel and I fall in love with a whole new type of fictional individual.

It’s like looking at the moon and wishing I could be its lover. Its sun. I’d much rather be the moon though.

I wish I could dive into those pages, or pull them out the same pages, depending on the plot, and to love them with all my might. Show them what they deserve. Chat with them for a bit.

But I could just write fan fiction about that, pity.

Am I just falling in love with the author? No, it’s the character. Now I could get into loving the author, but that’s a different poem.

A fictional character is so easy to love, sometimes quite difficult and that’s when it’s the most fun.

The bursting love that beats in your chest and screams in your ear can last for hours or a solid year. But for some, the idea of them last for years. It’ll dwindle if you’re lucky.

Loving a fictional character is something only a fan knows. Only a lover knows.
