Your story should explain how this expression came to be, and why it means what it does.

Better Late Than Never

“Better late than never”

As I walked towards him, I replayed all the moments we had shared. All the conversations, all the nights spent together, all the battles fought together, everything.

As she walked towards me I replayed everything I had done to get here. The manipulation, the betrayal, the break. Every time I lied, gaslighted, pretended everything.

When I reached him, I knelt down and pressed my blade against his throat. He was tied up, he had no way of escape.

I was tied up, currently trying to work out a plan as memories bombarded my mind from every angle. Attacking me, taunting me, luring me. I replayed the moment we had met. Both fighting for a place in the organization, for a life. Immediately, we saw eachother as a threat; because that’s what we were to eachother.

Looking back, I had realized I had been naive to his priorities and motives. He saw me as something he could use, and he did. I learned to trust him, love him. How gullible of me. No matter, the outcome of it ended out working in my favor, with a knife pressed to his throat, with him at my mercy.

I had pretended to love her, to care. I was exactly the fairytale she had wanted. I pretended to be conflicted, confused, completely in love. It had worked, once she got over the initial shock of her enemy desperately and unexpectedly falling for her, she saw the logic she wanted to see. It worked. Of course it did.

I ignored when he acted weird; how he skirted around questions and dodged plans late at night. How he snuck out for hours and came back with a flower. How his excuses seemed a little too rehearsed.

I did what I had to do. I had joined _Blade_ and proved my worth by infiltrateing the organization we were against. The one she worked for. I pretended to be a recruit, just like her. After seeing how natraul and commited she was, I knew they would let her in. I used that.

After he left with everything he needed, I realized what he had done. After that, I spent ever battle, misssion, outing, looking for him. Looking to kill him. It had taken me years but I finally had him. I lifted the knife that was pressed to his throat, and without a word, plunged it into his chest.

Even though it took me years, better late than never.
