WRITING OBSTACLE
Write a short story or paragraph in passive voice only.
The passive voice places emphasis on the thing rather than the person doing the thing: e.g. “The book was read” rather than “She read the book”.
Morning Coffee
Footsteps echo into the kitchen, sink
water runs, a coffee machine hums.
Siting, leaning, patience fleeting,
a tail is wagged in gentle greeting.
Curtains are pushed, in warm light floods,
pink gloves soon covered in fluffy soap scuds.
Silence is breeched by a long welcomed beep,
into a large mug the hot liquid seeps.
