STORY STARTER
Write a story about a toy that your main character has kept from childhood for a specific reason.
You could make it a description of the toy or a memory, or the toy could be a smaller part of the story.
Purple Bunny
Nessa was packing up the last of her boxes in her room. The moving truck was due in an hour but she still had bits and pieces scattered about.
She hated this house when she first moved here ten years ago. But over time, her feelings for it grew.
When she was younger she would cry to her dad and step-mom about how much she hated it. And how much she wished they could all move back to the old house.
Now that she was older, she understood why her dad wanted to leave. He didn’t want to be reminded of Nessa’s mom. Of all the memories that lay in it’s walls.
Nessa was almost done packing now. She looked at her pile which had now receded down to one item. The purple bunny.
She reached down and held on to it hard. For years she had forgotten about it. Tried to hide the bunny because of all the memories it brought up.
The smell of the purple bunny reminded her of her first home. It reminded her of the day her mom gave her the stuffy.
The day that her mom had died.
Nessa let the tears run and relished in the memories. That was so long ago. She should have moved on by now, but she never could.
And now this house was over. Her second home was going to be the stuff of memories in a few hours time.
Nessa was going to have to move on yet again.
She wiped off her tears and stuffed the purple bunny in her backpack. Through all of the changes life threw at her, the stuffy remained.
Nessa taped up her remaining boxes and brought them downstairs with the rest.
She was ready for what lied ahead.
