“Give me one reason not to kill you” the gunman huffs, pointing the gun towards my chest.

I never thought it’d be me in this situation, begging for my life while held at gunpoint, but I guess no one ever expects it to be them.

I formed my shaky mouth into words,” Well I work at the vet clinic and I am a nurse in training…” I pause, thinking about what I add ti society. Nothing. I start to cry,” who am I kidding? I left my parents poor and homeless with all the overdue bills, I haven’t talked to them in years.”

The man paused but still had the gun raised to me. I sobbed, falling down onto the cold floor that used to be rushing with people,” I don’t add anything to this world, I’ve made so many mistakes and left so many people hurt. What kind of person am I?” I gulp out, “ You can do it, go ahead and kill me, I haven’t added enough to this world and I don’t deserve to live.”

I wiped my face and saw the gunman lower his gun, “ get out.”

“What?” I sniffed.

“I said get the hell out, before I change my mind.” I get up and hurry out the door and hear his last words,” and make your life worth living.”

I ran out and have his last words engraved in my mind.

I will make my life worth living and will be forever grateful. I don’t know why he spared me, but now I know how fragile life is, and how each of us should work hard to make it better each day.
