Why do roses have thorns?
Write a poem that discusses this question.
The Four Faces Of The Rose
. The Gentle Queen
Why do roses wear their thorns like tiny suits of armor?
Because beauty’s got a bite, my friend, a wild and wary charmer.
They bloom in crimson confidence, in petals velvet-soft,
But guard themselves with nature’s wit, on every emerald stalk.
“Come close and breathe me in,” she whispers, “but do respect my space—
For every kiss the sun bestows, a thorn will guard my grace.”
It’s not to be unkind, you see, nor keep all hearts away—
But even beauty needs a shield when storms might come to play.
II. The Petty Queen
“Oh, you thought I was here to be plucked? Cute.
I’ve survived frost, storms, and clueless gardeners,
and I still look drop-dead hot.
These thorns? Baby, they’re not just accessories—
they’re an RSVP-only guest list for my personal space.
You wanna take me home?
You better bring skill, patience, and a damn good reason.
Because I’m not some wallflower in a vase.
I’m the main event,
and I decide who gets the front-row seat.”*
III. The Savage Queen
“Bless your heart—you touched me.
And now you’re bleeding.
I’m not your ‘pretty little decoration.’
I am the crown jewel of the garden,
the femme fatale of flora.
I run the bees. I own the sunlight.
You? You’re just another fool who thought
beauty was safe.
These thorns? They’re stilettos for stabbing.
I’ll leave you hissing through your teeth
and still look flawless while you patch yourself up.
Go ahead—put me in water.
I’ll outlast your last relationship.”
IV. The Temptress
“Come closer, love.
Breathe me in.
Let my scent wrap around your pulse
like silk tied too tight.
Feel how soft my petals are—
the way they invite you,
promise you something sweet.
But sweetness always costs something.
Every caress will cut you.
Every kiss will taste of blood.
And when I’m gone,
no other bloom will satisfy you.
Because I am the ruin you’ll crave again and again.”
