POEM STARTER
Inspired by Jewelie Rain
Write a poem that transitions through two or more of the seven stages of grief: denial, bargaining, anger, depression, loss of self, reflection, and acceptance.

my life’s been a series of blues and pinks and greens lately, a pretty sight
and while i’m nestled within all of those hues is when i think of you fondly, of who you are, who you aren’t, and of who you will eventually be, in all capacity
and that’s what i think of love and all it’s pain
it’s that it spreads itself equally. 50/50
pain that wills itself to always be there
jagged fingertips wrapped tightly through those fingers - cutting deeply into the palm - of all we know and love, forcefully conjoined for all eternity
this is the way it must be, the universe whispers
because without it we would feel nothing at all
besides the nagging rotting hole that grows on our palms
where the gentle hand of our lifelong lover is supposed to be
that’s longing for something
ingrained in our souls in strains of dna and in the semen of lost men
it’s in the regret we all have felt towards being born
in the shame our mothers have felt towards us, regretfully
but i’ll never regret you, or you, or you
i love all of you beyond the want of rationality or reciprocation
and that’s timeless baby
it’s unconditional and inconceivable beyond most
people’s understanding, i don’t even think you understand me
but it’s between me and the universe, only
in our whispers
in our love
to want for nothing at all but the wellbeing of another
another you, another you, another you
