POEM STARTER
Submitted by Chantel Akrawi
Write a poem where an inanimate object is a metaphor for love.
Queen of Hearts
With merely your gaze, you shuffled me and mixed me through.
Incredibly, you are a cardist with nothing more than your eyes.
My heart is held by your piercing words, my soul split in two.
I could so easily be enthralled by fiery lies.
A poker face controls your head.
Your emotions failing to even seep through.
I wouldn’t know what would follow your stead,
Yet there I would be, playing games with you.
We are the grandest pair, a queen and king of hearts.
Together we are proof the house hasn’t won.
Our rank combined does not surpass 21,
Not even magicians could keep us apart.
Here we go, a new game begins.
See you at the end, when somebody wins.
