POEM STARTER
Bruised Passports
Write a poem about travelling using this title.
Bruised Passports
Her brother three and she is five,
Home destroyed but they’re alive.
Her parents chose for them to flee,
A family of four refugees.
The dirty passports get a stamp,
Hop on a plane with clothes still damp.
Away from bombs roaring like thunder,
Onwards to the land down under.
Don’t speak the language but that’s okay,
As long as they are far away.
The main thing is a fresh new start,
And that they’re together, not apart.
Decades pass as the kids grow,
Assimilate to their new home.
Until she walks into my life,
My future love, my future wife.
The future mother of our two girls,
The three of you my whole wide world.
Journeys start with a single step,
And lead to butterfly effects.
I’m lucky to just have you near.
The rippled wave that led you here.
Though it came from something hateful,
I don’t like war, but I am grateful.
