I took a deep breath, and peeked inside, my heartbeat pulsing steadily but quickly. it was a dead body. not too surprising, I know. the jaw was bruised and the wounds on the arms revealed dried blood. the face looked pained and solemn. there was a green bomber jacket covering its chest, though the color had obviously faded over time. underneath was an ivory colored shirt and a locket hanging around the neck. however, I dared not touch it, scared of it breaking, though I was curious to see what was inside. the victim wore baggy gray jeans and Converses with one shoelace tied in a perfect bow, the other completely undone. after inspecting each detail, I took a step back. I had to figure out who this was and how they died if I wanted to know what had been going wrong. but it seemed the mystery had led me to a dead end there. the face was ashen and covered with specks of blood, indistinguishable from any other corpse. the only thing left to do was call the professionals: get forensic scientist on site, find someone careful and knowledgeable to handle the locket—I hoped something would give me a new lead. yet the DNA tests gave us nothing, and the locket was empty. to this day, the cold case is left unsolved.
