POEM STARTER

A Petrarchan Sonnet has 14 lines; the first 8 must have a rhyme scheme ABBAABBA, the last 6 can have variable rhymes, but are normally split into 2 sets of 3 lines.
The Sky Is Becoming Orange
The sky is becoming orange,
The night is drawing near,
We eat a bowl of porridge,
Because outside it’s drear’,
Christmas is coming soon,
We put the tree lights on,
And sing
And suddenly nuns are singing,
And the whole room is filled with sounds reaching Heaven,
Resounding gongs and cymbals,
Over and over
Outside the dawn is breaking,
There are shades of pink, yellow, green,
The sky is blue,
As the sun comes up
It shines so brightly,
A sign of early Spring,
To foreshadow a family-spent holiday,
As angel voices echo in children’s heads,
Of a goodnight and a goodnight, indeed
The children go to sleep,
As comforting dreams fill their heads,
Like a warm pair of mittens,
On a cold Winter’s day
