Story:
‘Now she could finally go outside and not burn. She could actually enjoy some fresh air like everyone else.’
Kacey smiled at the thought. She could be more…human, engage with humanity with ease, and not be sheltered in the dark.
Sev saw the smile on Kacey's face, he knew what it was all about. “Y’know. Humanity isn’t all rainbows and sunshine.” He said, cleaning the blade, making it shine again.
Kacey looked at Sev, furrowing her eyebrows.
Way to ruin a moment, she thought..
“I'm quite aware…Look at you.” She said, grinning slightly, Sev looked up from the blade, offended.
“What the hell is that supposed to mean?” Sev questioned.
Kacey shrugged, “You tell me, Mr. ‘Killing things’ is my career path.” She said, teasing him.
“…well- former career path…also it wasn’t like I was doing it without a purpose, per say..there was reasons… I was keeping things safe around here…nothing malicious.” Sev corrected, rolling his eyes.
Kacey waved a dismissive hand, “whatever, same difference. Anyway, what did that lady want with this crystal anyway?” She asked.
“She knew it would help, she wanted to destroy that opportunity for you,” Sev said, going back to cleaning his blade.
“Then why did YOU help? That crystal being broken would’ve just made things easier for you..right?” Kacey asked, furrowing her eyebrows.
“I couldn’t get myself not to help…I’ve grown…more fond of you, the more I spend time with you.” Sev said, shrugging.
Kacey blinked in surprise.
“Oh-well…what made you change your mind?” Kacey asked.
Sev sighed…
What’s with all these questions? Shouldn’t she focus on creating this cure she needed the rock for??
He then looked at her, his blue eyes meeting her red ones. “You have just the right amount of sass, yet you have a heart of gold.” He started.
“Like when I got injured…trying to end YOUR existence…yet you still helped me, let me stay with you….forgave me just like that in return. Why you’d do such a thing is beyond me…but also….” He paused for a minute, placing the clean blade down, dropping the washcloth to the floor.
“I like that in a person. You remind me of a friend I used to have.” He confessed, smiling slightly.
Kacey smiled too, “Wow, a compliment…is this you saying you consider me a friend now?” She asked.
Sev scoffed, it wasn’t really a genuine, “no. Just acquaintances….with no hostility now.” He said.
“….I’m just going to say you consider us friends,” Kacey said with a slight laugh.
She then put a test tube out on the table, and a variety of vials, filled with different colors of liquids, and then the crystal.
“Let’s get started with this, I’m itching to go outside,” Kacey said, Sev nodded slightly.
And with that, they started on the cure, pouring each vial in order, then lastly the crystal splashing the contents a little as it was dropped in, smoke came from it at first.
“It’s ready…” Sev said, pouring the concoction into a different bottle, a pretty purple color it created.
Kacey took it, drank it before Sev could utter another word.
He had never seen someone this eager to go outside…but it’s one of her first times so…he didn’t judge.
“…I was meaning to tell you before you…chugged the whole thing down…this isn’t a permanent fix.” He explained.
“It lasts a couple of years for most, months for others, it depends on the individual…” Sev added.
Kacey nodded slightly, “I know….kind of figured that.” She said, a little disappointed but mostly happy that she can still enjoy the light now with the time she has now.
“On a brighter note…let’s start your outdoor journey, I’ll show you all the best spots around this place.” Sev offered, standing up.
Kacey nodded, headed straight for the door.
“Uh, You do need to put your shoes on first..” Sev called out, and Kacey looked down at her feet, at the pink, aged socks she wore.
“Oh…right.” She said, laughing awkwardly.
She then slid a pair of old shoes she had, then they were off.
Her eyes widened at the sight of the sky, once her eyes adjusted to the change between dark and light.
The sky was so…blue and pretty…
Before she got too distracted, she and Sev walked down the sidewalk. He pointed out all the best details he could find to her, and she observed in excitement.
It was an eventful day…yet it ended well..
