No One Leaves

The sound of grunts, choked cries, and clanking of rocks colliding was all that could be heard besides the crying out of a name.

"Jaime!" Her nails were shredded and cuticles bleeding from the incessant beating of her hands from digging through the wreckage that was once a building. Her heart pounded in her chest as she looked around to try find her weakness, the one person she loved most.

"Jaime! Answer me! Where are you?" Her voice was hoarse from screaming, but she was hoping if she was loud enough her partner would be able to hear her. It wasn't supposed to be like this.

It was supposed to be a simple robbery, but they didn't realize that someone was planning on taking the building down today. If they had just done it yesterday as planned, if they had just stuck to the plan-

Movement. She saw movement in the rubble about ten feet to her left as she scrambled over to it, and started digging as quickly as possible. "Jaime, I've got you, I'm right here!" she called out as she kept moving the pieces of debris, only to have more pile on top. Her movements were quick and her anxiety had bubbled up in her stomach up to her throat as more tears ran down her face. "Jaime! Oh my god, Jaime!" She grabbed a hand and held onto it while she kept digging with the other.

"Please, just hold on, baby! One more minute." She called out again, not even noticing the footsteps behind her that was camouflaged with the rocks she was throwing cascading down the tiny mountains of rubble.

She had an arm out and began pulling, moving more rocks as her heart began to beat outside of her chest. Eventually she saw hair after a couple minutes, and the footsteps directly behind her went unnoticed. She pulled as hard as she could and it was indeed Jaime that she found as the face of her lover appeared and she let out a cry of relief as she heard a gasp come from her partner. "Come here, come here," she said as she kept trying to pull Jaime out of the rubble until she heard a laugh come from behind her.

"What do we have here?" The voice stopped her in her tracks. "Oh, no, your plan didn't work." The blatant mockery coming from the familiar voice made her turn her head in anger.

"Leave us out of whatever you have planned. This was our last mission to the league." She spat back as she continued to pull the body and noticed red among the grey powder that covered Jaime's body. "Leave!" She turned and screamed out, using one hand to swipe to try and back them away but they were just out of reach.

"No one ever leaves the league, Clara." She felt the presence of the woman behind her crouch down, and caress the back of her head. "What do you always say again?" There was a hum before an exaggerated gasp came from the woman behind her. "That's it," the woman exclaimed loudly with fake realization.

"I guess it was all in vain."
