POEM STARTER

Inspired by Hollow Oaks

Can You Hear Me?

Write a poem that could have this as the title.

Can You Hear Me?

Born the little sibling to a needy sister,

She’s a bossy britches so I’m a mute mister,

Tongue tied up tightly like it’s playing twister,

Can you hear me?

Going through school as the quiet achiever,

First girlfriend’s mean but I’m too shy to leave her,

Call up my crush then hang up the receiver,

Can you hear me?

Start my job which becomes my career,

Loyal like dog to firm year after year,

Work wife is venting, I lend her my ear,

Can you hear me?

Meet my wife — she likes that I don’t talk back,

Always the socialite lacking the tact,

It’s true what they say, opposites do attract,

Can you hear me?

Kids growing up always showing me sass,

Treat me like crap with their potty mouths’ crass,

Is this the last straw? Reaching critical mass,

Can you hear me?

Overlooked for promotion for umpteenth time,

Kids need bail for their petty crimes,

I’m sick of pretending that everything’s fine,

Can you hear me?

I watch boss arrive home, just like I planned,

Should I use the gun or the knife that’s at hand,

Beware the fury of a patient man,

You will hear me now.
