Halloween Candy
Sticky pops
And gooey cubes
Vibrant dots
And milky hues
You shove them down
Without a count
Hoping your stomache
Won’t make a sound
Crinkle crunch crinkle
Your stack of goodies dwindles
Now gone are the lollies
The chocolate
The bears
Gone are the pumpkins
The memories you’ve shared
Only in your mind
These candies exist
That sweet, sticky smell
The crunchy, crinkling comfort
Of a taste time can’t get back
Of a feeling that’s fled
And of a tart little candy long ago devoured
But it’s not just the candy
Or a bag heaping and sweet
It’s a matter of the season
And how quickly it flees
Though you try to get back
The time long ago spent
To get back the leaves
And people who’ve went
So try as you might
To resurect this time
You’re better off leaving it
It costs more than a dime
