WRITING OBSTACLE
Inspired by Samantha Roberts
Write a descriptive scene about a character feeling the sunlight on their face for the first time in a very long while.
Try to use as many senses as you can to capture this moment.
Sunshine And The Pale Faces
Instantly, as the sun kissed my face, sweat drops formed and dried, then burned little spots, the same size as the drops of body coolant, into the milky flesh from the shoulder up.
Mere moments later my vision was clouded with steam, no a smoke, yes a smoke from the newly formed blisters rising from the intense orange light.
The pain was excruciating, but only for split seconds at a time, as the pain was almost instantly transferred to an uncomfortable tingling. If the pain was uncomfortable, the smell was unbearable, it smelled like a mixture of burning plastic , flesh, and when somebody lights the wrong end of a cigarette.
Also, there was a sound of bubbling , gurgling sound as my flesh boiled from the ultra-intense, well ultra violet light, then a pop as the side of my head split like a sausage left too long over a wood fire.
I haven’t seen a sunrise in over 300 years. I was able to watch my last one right before I was turned, 300 years and I’ve been able to keep hidden, avoid , evade and keep myself out of the sunlight.
But once I was caught, my punishment is to stand in the sunlight until such time as I am unable to think anymore.
With that final pop and my head split open like a hot dog on a Fourth of July grill. … this is my last thought …
